The Theotokos “protection of the unborn”.
Glory to God there was a historic victory today in the States. For family, for life and for unborn children everywhere. As an Orthodox Christian, Priest and a father of a beautiful little boy and another baby on the way, this brings joy and hope into mine and my wife’s heart. Many of you on my friends list here on FB, won’t agree with me on this. That is your choice. But no choice of another should result in the termination of an unborn child. Life begins at conception. Dead things or unliving things don’t grow. But growth is inherently a factor of life. Physical or otherwise. If you’re ”pro-choice” then you have the choice to choose abstinence. But no one has the right to take a life. There are times when wars had be fought to defend life, or when law enforcement has to prevent the deaths of innocent people. But unjust laws are no laws at all and thank God, there is finally progress in defending unborn babies.
No parent should approve of the so-called “right to choose” in terms of abortion. One shouldn’t make an expensive purchase before they are ready, so too should one abstain from intercourse outside of marriage. The only kind of sexual contact God blesses, is between a man and a woman in marriage. There will be friends of mine who will be offended or disagree with my post. Just know some of you have said things that I am fundamentally opposed to as well. I’ve chosen to hold my tongue and not say anything. You have the choice to do the same with this post. You can ignore it or remove me. But I am a priest, so ask yourself, what else would you expect of me?
Statistically 45% of pregnancies in North America are unplanned. Only 5% are from rape or coercion in women aged 12-45. So using this argument as a reason for abortion is a weak one at best, and at worse, makes two victims instead of one. The one who was tragically assaulted and the other murdered. Taking a life doesn’t restore a life.
In the US, younger women who are sexually active are less likely to use contraception than other age groups, and thus are more likely to have unintended pregnancies. Approximately 18% of young women aged 15–19 years old at risk of unintended pregnancy do not use contraception, compared with 13% of women aged 20–24 and 10% of women aged 25–44.
In 2011, the unintended pregnancy rate was 41 per 1,000 women aged 15–19.
The problem isn’t the child. The problem is the belief that one can engage in an activity that should be reserved for marriage. In a relationship where there is trust and stability. The best form of birth control is to simply to abstain, and if you cannot control your impulses, then why should you demand that society demoralize itself, and create a double standard on life to enable your lack of self-control, which ultimately finds in itself, a lack of self esteem. Contraception doesn’t always work and worst of all, it cheapens the act of sexual intimacy and the one who uses it.
Something to think about. Glory to God for all things.
